About Jim Young's 1967 Chevelle Malibu

It all started when I took my wife to the Chatterbox one Saturday afternoon in my ’66 Belair and we saw a white ’67 Chevelle. She said, “My Dad had one of these” I said “Are you sure? Just like this?” Later she showed me a picture and by golly, he had a white 2-door post! I told her one day we will have one.

Over time, I would scan the internet for any 67’s for sale, about every 6 months. In Feb 2013 Boom! I found one. Is was clean, affordable, and close by in Whitehouse Station NJ! It is a 4-door sedan which helped with the “affordable” part, but we love 4-doors and wagons. I took a good friend who owned a body shop to look at it and he couldn’t find a reason not to buy it.

I had to get rid of the Belair in a hurry, but happened upon someone who fell in love with it. Everything worked out. I came back a few days later with my trailer and picked it up.

The way the names for the car started was that the Belair was aqua colored and handled like a boat so she named it “The Wave”. I work on them, she names them, so this one is called “The Cloud”

Each year we try and pick at least one improvement to do to it. This year: working radio.

The inspiration for our car, my father in law in his '67 Chevelle

The beginning

The day I picked it up was 3/16/13.
We did 4-wheel brakes and removed the blown turbo 350 trans and installed a 700R4 to calm down the 4:10 gears.
1st stop before going home was Steve's Transmission in Stillwater NJ.
Steve driving, me shooting!

Next

Cylinder heads were replaced with Dart SR 164cc iron heads after problems with original heads. July 2013 the front suspension and steering was replaced. At same time, eliminated the “always leaking” header flanges with SS band clamps. No more tick tick!

Moving on

Replaced the carpet with a factory style one. A pile of items were found under the old carpet including a new box of plugs! Around that time, I also replaced mismatched gauges with Autometer 2-5/8″ on a new bracket. April 2015 replaced tail light lenses, sockets, and bulbs with LED.

We're there!
