About Mike Cilurso’s 1938 Chevy Master Deluxe Coupe

After searching the internet, I found what I was looking for — a late 1930s coupe. The HAMB ad said the car was in Walnutport PA. But, there was no address or owner’s contact info.  So, I drove to Walnutport and started searching for the Chevy Coupe.  I showed people pictures of the car and finally, at a local scrapyard, I found somebody who recognized it and knew Earl, the owner. I tracked him down and we struck a deal!

The Chevy coupe was stock and in nice shape. But its original 216 six was pretty shot. So, I decided to upgrade the engine to a newer, 235 engine with a fully pressurized oiling system. I purchased it from Harry Owen. The engine was then freshened up with new lifers, new cam shaft and a machined head.

Besides the engine, I replaced the radiator and finished off the trunk with new carpeting.

There’s always work to be done, but it runs great and is fun to drive.
